Sekisui Chemical Co., Ltd. announced plans to build a new plant through its wholly owned subsidiary 積水テクノ成型 on its premises in Gamagori, Aichi Prefecture, for injection-molded products used in vehicle interiors and exteriors. The plant will have a total floor area of 4,350 square meters and produce interior and exterior components for four-wheeled vehicles. Operations are scheduled to begin in February 2029, making it the third injection-molding facility in the Tokai region and the fourth in Japan as a whole.
The new plant will combine its technology with that of the adjacent 積水ナノコートテクノロジー and use sputtering-based surface treatment to add functions such as a metallic appearance, UV protection and heat shielding to vehicle components while preserving the physical properties and texture of the base fabric. This is intended to enhance the company’s ability to supply functional components.
In anticipation of a future decline in the working population, the company will promote the smartification of its production lines and introduce the latest automated equipment to improve production efficiency and stabilize quality control. Under its medium-term management plan, Accelerate 2028, the company plans to drive growth in the mobility sector strategically. The investment is positioned as an upfront investment in anticipation of expanding demand from 2029 onward.
