Prime Minister Takaichi (高市早苗) said in representative questioning in the House of Representatives that government bond issuance in fiscal 2027 would be kept below the previous year's level, at around ¥40 trillion even after the supplementary budget, with measures similar to those in fiscal 2025.
Regarding subsidies for electricity and gas bills, she said the government would respond appropriately to additional support for households entering winter after closely monitoring fluctuations in crude oil and LNG prices.
She said the government would respect the Bank of Japan's monetary policy and expressed the view that its growth strategy, involving more than ¥370 trillion in public- and private-sector investment in total, did not constitute reflationary policy. She explained that private-sector capital investment had reached a record-high ¥128 trillion in fiscal 2025.
Regarding a two-year temporary cut in consumption tax, she indicated a policy of making flexible decisions in situations such as disasters. She also said that the direction of a review of valuations for unlisted shares had not been decided at this time.
