At a briefing held by the Japan Soymilk Association, Kikkoman Soyfoods announced that it will launch Unadjusted Soy Milk Sumika in 1,000 ml cartons from 7 October. The suggested retail price is ¥600, excluding tax, and sales are scheduled to begin on Amazon and at select retailers.
The company said the new product uses “Saga University HO1,” developed by Saga University over approximately 40 years, to reduce the beany odor characteristic of soy milk. Linoleic acid, which is considered a cause of the odor, is said to be reduced by approximately 90% compared with conventional soybeans. The product uses the patented “Clear, Smooth Production Method,” which volatilizes odor compounds using steam.
At the briefing, member companies other than Kikkoman Soyfoods also presented their initiatives. Marusan-Ai launched the new “Chanto Plant” brand, with a lineup including 2 varieties of soy yogurt, soy-based shredded cheese, soy-based sliced cheese, and soy-based soft, melt-in-the-mouth butter-flavored spread.
As a promotional initiative, a keyword quiz campaign commemorating the launch of “Chanto Plant” is scheduled to run from 24 September through 30 October. Prizes will be awarded by lottery to selected participants, and “A Step Above Soy Milk, La France Mille-Crêpes 200 ml” is also scheduled to be added as a related product.
