Nissan's North American subsidiary has unveiled the Datsun S30 Concept, which revives the heritage of the first-generation Fairlady Z with modern technology. The one-off was built for display at the SEMA Show, featuring a transplanted VR30DDTT engine and weight-saving carbon components.
Nissan's North American subsidiary unveiled the Datsun S30 Concept on 28 October. It is a restomod that combines the timeless design of the first-generation S30 Fairlady Z with modern technology, and has been built as a one-off car for display at the SEMA Show.
Its main feature is the transplant of the current Fairlady Z's 3.0-litre V6 twin-turbo engine, the VR30DDTT, without modification. It has been tuned with NISMO parts to draw out its performance. Key body components have been replaced with carbon fibre after taking into account the weight balance of the turbochargers and engine.
The suspension has been given a dedicated setup informed by motorsport expertise, designed to ensure powerful braking while maintaining body rigidity and handling. The exterior and interior retain the basic long-nose, short-deck proportions, combining carbon components with modern seats while preserving a classic atmosphere.
The S30 Concept is not intended for commercial production. According to a report by GQ JAPAN, it is a special one-off model built for display at the SEMA Show. Nissan is reportedly seeking to showcase the fusion of its heritage and modern technology to the world.
