Nikkei 225 futures saw initial selling after the open during midday trading, but after hitting an immediate low of ¥63,730, short covering prevailed and the decline narrowed to ¥64,830. The intraday level relative to the previous session fluctuated, influenced by movements in US markets over the weekend.
Declines in semiconductor and AI-related stocks weighed on the market, with Advantest, Tokyo Electron and SoftBank Group among the factors pushing prices lower. After the selling ran its course, however, the decline moderated and Kioxia Holdings recovered into positive territory.
After hitting a low of ¥63,730 immediately after the open, the contract traded in the ¥64,000–¥64,400 range, with trading contested around the Bollinger Band -1σ level of ¥64,210. The NT ratio fell to 15.94x from 16.05x on the 16th, indicating a relatively stronger TOPIX-style performance, while the possibility of rebalancing following a move below the 200-day moving average was also suggested.
