OPTiM announced that, in collaboration with Pacific Consultants, it would develop and begin providing a new mini-app adding infrastructure inspection functionality for local governments to “OPTiM Geo Scan,” a high-precision smartphone surveying service accurate to the millimetre. The launch is scheduled for 7 October 2026.
Pacific Consultants and OPTiM have jointly developed the “Infrastructure Inspection Mini-App” as an extension of Geo Scan, with the aim of improving the efficiency of infrastructure inspection work conducted by local governments. The mini-app includes inspection record functionality and is intended to enable the entire process, from on-site inspection to drawing preparation, to be completed on a smartphone.
The new functionality includes inspection sheets for regulatory inspections, such as assessing the condition of retaining walls on residential land. Automatic linking of location information and photographic data improves data accuracy and enables users to see at a glance which on-site measures should be prioritised. Surveying data is also expected to achieve millimetre accuracy using public coordinate data.
Geo Scan enables the entire process, from diagnosis through surveying and drawing preparation, to be performed consistently. The service is highlighted for eliminating specialised work using conventional equipment and software and for enabling not only on-site confirmation but also the collection of reference materials to be completed on a smartphone. The acquisition of 3D data at millimetre accuracy also enables the observation of minute displacements.
Expected implementation benefits include a substantial reduction in the time required for work from on-site surveys through photo organisation, reduced reliance on external equipment and outsourcing, and support for assessing conditions and planning measures in the event of a disaster. The addition of an ongoing monitoring function compliant with the Embankment Regulation Act is also under consideration.
