The first foldable iPhone is widely reported to be likely to debut at Apple’s new product event on 9 September. As an early-generation foldable device, it is expected to use ultra-thin glass that limits the crease at the center of the display to approximately 0.15 mm.
The foldable iPhone is reportedly a model known internally as “iPhone Ultra,” according to 内外タイムス, and is considered likely to be formally announced at the event on 9 September. The device is designed to fit easily in a pocket and prioritizes durability, although reports also indicate that it may not have a telephoto camera.
In the history of foldable smartphones, products such as Royole’s FlexPai (2018) and Samsung’s Galaxy Fold (2019) came first, and Apple is said to be seeking to make up a 7-year gap. The main focus is a design that brings the crease at the center of the display as close to zero as possible. The device is expected to use ultra-thin glass known as UFG, limiting the crease depth to 0.15 mm.
Meanwhile, Samsung’s new Galaxy Z Fold8 promotes its barely noticeable crease, leading to assessments that the hardware gap will still leave Apple looking like a follower.
On the software side, reports indicate that Apple is developing the iPhone’s first side-by-side display of 2 apps and a proprietary UI, leaving room to differentiate the device from competing models.
Attention is also focused on the specifications and price of the foldable iPhone awaited by Apple fans.
