Capcom was added to the Nikkei 225 effective 1 October. Its strengthened earnings power in overseas markets and the continued sales model for titles using its intellectual property were recognised.
Capcom, a major gaming company, was added to the constituents of the Nikkei 225, Japan's leading stock index. The inclusion was officially announced as part of an adjustment following the Nikkei 225's regular review.
Japan's content industry continues to grow in overseas markets, with the expansion of digital sales cited as one factor. Games are increasingly being delivered directly overseas through downloads, and the overseas market is reported to have reached a scale surpassing that of semiconductors.
For the first quarter of Capcom's fiscal year ending March 2027, sales were ¥70.4 billion and operating profit was ¥41.1 billion, both up sharply year on year. The overseas share on a unit-sales basis, at 90.8%, has attracted attention as an indicator of overseas sales. Full-year operating profit is expected to be ¥83 billion.
Capcom's inclusion in the Nikkei 225 is expected to affect the stocks bought and sold by related investment trusts and other funds, bringing greater market attention to the company's presence as a content company earning revenue globally.
