Food Label, a consolidated subsidiary of Pickles Holdings, has launched nationwide a ginger pork sauce recreating the flavor of Hishidaya, a long-established set-meal restaurant in Komaba-Todai-mae, Tokyo. The product comes in a 345g package and is sold at an open price.
Food Label launched “Hishidaya Ginger Pork Sauce” nationwide on 1 September. The product uses the same soy sauce as the restaurant as its base, with garlic added as a subtle flavoring to recreate Hishidaya’s signature taste. It uses 100% grated ginger to preserve the ginger’s natural flavor.
The sauce can be used at home to create an authentic flavor simply by cooking pork and onions in a frying pan and drizzling the product over them, according to the company.
Hishidaya is a long-established set-meal restaurant with a history spanning more than 100 years. In the late Meiji period, it provided catered boxed meals to University of Tokyo professors and others, and today enjoys the support of local residents, University of Tokyo students and food enthusiasts.
