IIJ and Matsue City have established a framework under an agreement to supply power from the large-capacity storage batteries installed at Matsue Data Center Park to evacuation shelters during disasters. The batteries have a capacity of 1,741 kWh and, together with fast EV chargers, will supply approximately 2 days of power to community center shelters.
Major telecommunications provider IIJ has signed an agreement with Matsue City on disaster assistance. It will supply power from the large-capacity storage batteries installed at Matsue Data Center Park (DCP) to the 2 community centers designated as evacuation shelters by Matsue City, helping secure power during disasters. The storage system has a capacity of 1,741 kWh and combines a 200 kW-output system with equipment delivering 50 kW output as fast EV chargers.
The storage batteries are charged with electricity generated by solar power facilities at Matsue DCP and are normally used as backup power for the data center. In the event of a disaster, they are expected to support communications, lighting and medical purposes at evacuation shelters.
IIJ President Taniwaki Yasuhiko (谷脇康彦) and Matsue Mayor Ujō Akihito (上定昭仁) attended the signing ceremony and discussed the importance of contributing to the community and securing power in emergencies. Matsue DCP opened in 2011 and added a system module building in 2025. IIJ is participating as a joint proposer as part of the advanced decarbonization region initiative.
