U.S. stocks rose the previous day, with the Dow and Nasdaq both higher, and buying prevailed after the opening. The sharp rise in the SOX Index also supported semiconductor-related stocks.
By sector, nonferrous metals, mining, oil and coal products, foods, and electric power and gas ranked among the top gainers, while marine transportation, machinery, electrical equipment, metal products, and iron and steel were among the leading decliners. Advantest and Kioxia Holdings were among the top stocks by trading value on the TSE Prime Market, while Hitachi, NEC, Nintendo, and FANUC were among the decliners.
Weekly data released before the start of trading showed overseas investors were net buyers of domestic stocks for the first time in 2 weeks, with net purchases of ¥1.1809 trillion. From a medium-term perspective, there was also a view that investor buying had remained subdued ahead of the Bank of Japan's Monetary Policy Meeting.
Following today's movement in the Nikkei Average, attention is focused on the SOX Index and the performance of individual stocks.
