Omairi Pay®, a cashless payment service for temples and shrines, will be introduced at Myoenji Temple in Hiratsuka, Kanagawa Prefecture, with operations beginning on 16 September 2026. Visitors will be able to use the service when purchasing ceremonial items.
Myoenji Temple announced that it will introduce Omairi Pay®, a cashless payment service for temples and shrines jointly developed by Value Design and the Kyoto Buddhist Organization. The service will launch on 16 September 2026, enabling payments when purchasing ceremonial items.
Myoenji Temple is a Tendai Buddhist temple with a history spanning more than 400 years. Its grounds feature the Benten-do hall, which enshrines the eight-armed Ugafukujin, as well as the Iwaya Reiketsu rock cavern. In recent years, requests for cashless payment options have increased, leading to the decision to introduce the service to improve the payment environment.
The implementation details are as follows: the service will launch on 16 September 2026, Wednesday; it will cover amulets and other ceremonial items; and it will accept credit cards, including JCB, American Express, Diners Club, Visa and Mastercard.
Omairi Pay® was developed under the supervision of the Kyoto Buddhist Organization as a payment service for temples and shrines. It is designed to take freedom of religion into consideration and support more efficient temple operations. The introduction at Myoenji Temple is expected to contribute to the wider adoption of cashless payments at temples and shrines.
