Omairi Pay®, a cashless payment service for temples and shrines jointly developed by Value Design, a subsidiary of Paycloud Holdings Inc., and the Kyoto Buddhist Organization, will be introduced at Kinkaku-ji, a World Cultural Heritage site. The service will initially cover admission fee payments, with improvements to the payment environment and operational efficiency expected.
The launch date is Monday, 28 September 2026, when credit card payments will become available for admission fees. Accepted payment methods will be Visa, Mastercard, JCB, American Express and Diners Club, and transaction statuses for each temple counter will be viewable collectively through a management interface.
In comments by chief steward Yamaki (山木), the temple indicated its intention to meet the cashless payment needs of visitors, including those from overseas, while respecting freedom of religion and improving and expanding temple operations.
The service was developed under the supervision of the Kyoto Buddhist Organization. By providing payment infrastructure tailored to the operating realities of temples and shrines, it supports the preservation of Japan’s religious culture and sustainable operations.
