NEC announced a collaboration with U.S.-based Anthropic to apply its frontier AI, Mythos, to NEC’s software development, operations and vulnerability management, with the aim of advancing defensive cybersecurity.
NEC is joining Anthropic’s Project Glasswing initiative to improve software safety and plans to use Claude Mythos Preview for defensive purposes to detect vulnerabilities earlier and streamline remediation. NEC has announced plans to apply Mythos to its own systems development, operations and vulnerability management processes.
Under the initiative, NEC will position itself as the “zeroeth client” and use the technology in its internal operations to verify its effectiveness, safety and operating rules. The resulting insights will be reflected in the design of customer services, governance and talent development. The initiative builds on the expanding collaboration between NEC and Anthropic. In April, NEC became the first Japanese company to enter into a global partnership with Anthropic, and in June, a co-creation project involving 8 financial institutions was launched.
The aim is to build on this relationship to expand the areas where AI is used into cybersecurity and establish a defensive framework suited to the AI-native era. NEC plans to verify the technology’s effectiveness and safety internally before rolling it out to customer services, increasing its practical value while limiting the risks associated with implementation.
