J. Front Retailing released second-quarter results for the fiscal year ending February 2027. Department-store tax-free sales were ¥56.6 billion, up 13.8% year on year, supported by the weaker yen and higher average customer spending.
Total revenue for the second quarter, from March through August 2026, was ¥638.2 billion, up 2.5% year on year, as sales at the department stores and shopping-center business remained firm.
Operating profit, which indicates profit from the core business, was ¥26.8 billion, down 10.5% year on year. Business profit was ¥26.5 billion, down 5.6%, and net income was ¥17.3 billion, down 5.3%, with all three below the previous year.
Department-store tax-free sales were ¥56.6 billion, up 13.8% year on year. Despite a decline in customer numbers, higher average customer spending pushed up sales.
Factors including the large-scale renovation of the Umeda store and the reactionary decline in Expo-related sales also had an impact, but strong performance in the tax-free segment contributed to the overall increase in revenue.
