Tokyo stocks fell across the board amid higher oil prices and rising long-term yields, with the Nikkei 225 posting a sharp decline from the previous day. TOPIX also fell significantly, and selling remained dominant throughout the session.
The Nikkei 225 closed at ¥64,325.64, down ¥1,889.70 from the previous day, as selling pressure intensified in the Prime Market. In addition to rising oil prices amid worsening tensions in the Middle East, higher long-term yields also weighed on the market. The decline in South Korea's Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI), which has a strong correlation with the Nikkei 225, also had an impact.
TOPIX fell sharply by 100.26 points to 4,081.60, while trading volume reached 2.41905 billion shares and trading value totaled ¥8.0344 trillion. All 33 sector indexes declined, with nonferrous metals, services, glass and ceramics products, electric appliances, transportation equipment and air transportation among the sectors recording the steepest declines.
The Standard Market TOP20 and the Growth Market Core and 250 also continued to decline, with selling spreading broadly across the market. As the market-wide decline deepened, stock-specific selection and sector-specific reactions became more pronounced. (End)
