As a new product in the Japanese wine market, Suntory will launch “SUNTORY FROM FARM THE 甲州 テロワールアンサンブル 2025” in a limited quantity on 8 September. At the launch event, the company explained that a key feature of the wine is its blend of base wines made from Koshu grapes grown in 4 vineyard plots at company-managed vineyards.
The product is a dry white wine with an alcohol content of 12%. The grapes are 100% Koshu from company-managed vineyards, sourced from Tateshina Town, Nagano Prefecture; Minami-Alps City, Yamanashi Prefecture; Kai City, Yamanashi Prefecture; and Chuo City, Yamanashi Prefecture. It is made at Tomi no Oka Winery, with a production volume of approximately 24,000 bottles and a catalog price of ¥3,500 before tax.
The 4 vineyard plots are the Tateshina Vineyard in Nagano, at an elevation of 780 meters in a cool climate, along with the Minami-Alps, Futaba and Toyotomi vineyards. Each has different soil, elevation and sunlight conditions. The presentation also covered efforts to draw out the balance between sugar content and acidity, as well as the individual characteristics of each plot, by combining cultivation methods such as hedgerow training.
At the tasting, the wine was served with sea bream and striped jack sashimi, squid wrapped in shiso leaves, and shrimp tempura. The aroma featured green apple along with yuzu-like notes of Japanese citrus. The wine was described as having a good balance of fruit and acidity, with the firm, taut acidity of Nagano adding a lingering finish from the middle of the palate onward.
