Suntory announced that it will launch "SUNTORY FROM FARM THE 甲州 テロワールアンサンブル 2025" on 8 September as a new Japanese wine produced in Japan. The Koshu used in the wine will be made by blending base wine produced from grapes harvested at vineyards managed by the company.
The Koshu grapes were harvested in 4 regions, including Tateshina, Nagano Prefecture, and Minami-Alps, Yamanashi Prefecture, then produced and blended at Tomi no Oka Winery in Kai, Yamanashi Prefecture. Sugar content and other characteristics vary by region, and the company is pursuing a multilayered flavor profile by combining grapes from the different regions.
The expected retail price is ¥3,850 for 750ml. Planned sales are approximately 2,000 cases (approximately 24,000 bottles). Going forward, the company plans to increase production capacity at its own vineyards and is targeting approximately 9,000 cases for the THE 甲州 テロワールアンサンブル series in 2035.
Japanese wine is a labeling designation that may be used only when 100% domestically grown grapes are used and the wine is produced in Japan. Wine produced in Japan using grapes from overseas or concentrated grape juice cannot be labeled Japanese wine.
