Apple announced the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max. The new Pro lineup features a 48MP Fusion main camera with a variable aperture, highlighting professional-level control. Apple also described improvements to Dynamic Island and the addition of a reference image feature.
New features designed to enhance photo and video quality include texture and grain controls for Photographic Styles, cinematic effects at up to 60 fps, time-lapse recording in 4K and Dolby Vision HDR, and audio mixing using new algorithms. Manual controls and histogram display will also be available in the Camera app.
The A20 Pro chip uses a 2nm process and features a 6-core CPU, 7-core GPU and dual 16-core Neural Engine, with AI processing targeted at more than twice the performance of the previous generation. New capabilities powered by Apple Intelligence and Siri AI, combining on-device AI with Private Cloud, are highlighted, and the phones run iOS 27.
Battery life has been significantly improved, with eSIM models offering up to 36 hours of video playback on Pro and up to 45 hours on Pro Max. Fast charging reaches up to 50% in 15 minutes, while wireless charging reaches 50% in 30 minutes. Apple also says the Pro Max delivers extended playback with wired charging.
The eSIM-only models support Wi‑Fi 7, Bluetooth 6 and Thread. The adoption of the N1 modem and introduction of the C2 modem improve connectivity and power efficiency. Apple also described environmental initiatives, including the use and recovery of recycled materials and making paper packaging 100% fiber-based.
