As Sharp marks 10 years since entering Hon Hai Precision Industry's group, it has announced a new collaboration in the domestic AI server business. The stated aim is to expand the market by leveraging Hon Hai's EMS capabilities.
Sharp is currently marking 10 years since entering Hon Hai's group and is pursuing a turnaround in collaboration with Hon Hai. In the past, excessive investment in the liquid-crystal display business and insufficient results from the collaboration were reportedly highlighted.
At a press conference on 15 September, President Kawamura Tetsuji (河村 哲治) formally announced Sharp's entry into the AI server business and disclosed plans to procure AI servers from Hon Hai and supply them to companies, local governments and data-center operators, among others. Sales are scheduled to begin in fiscal 2027, with the company aiming for revenue of ¥250 billion in fiscal 2030.
Alongside the new-business initiatives, the financial impact of making SDP a wholly owned subsidiary has been reported, with a net loss of approximately ¥260 billion recorded in fiscal 2022. There was also a period when changes in the language and structure of internal organizations and a review of reporting lines progressed, and the distance between the parties in the collaboration was reportedly discussed among stakeholders.
