In the morning session on 17 September, large-cap game stocks were broadly bought ahead of the opening of the Tokyo Game Show. GENDA's August monthly sales rose 24.4% year on year to a record high, while Link-U rebounded.
The Tokyo Stock Exchange morning session on 17 September extended its gains modestly, with the Nikkei 225 trading slightly above the previous day's level. Buying led the market on the passage of the US FOMC meeting and lower oil prices, although profit-taking was also seen ahead of the Bank of Japan's meeting.
Game and entertainment-related stocks were predominantly higher, with more rising than falling among the listed names, and rotational buying related to the Tokyo Game Show gaining momentum. Major game-related stocks, including Sony Group, Nintendo, Bandai Namco Holdings, Sega Sammy Holdings, Konami Group, Square Enix Holdings, Capcom and Koei Tecmo Holdings, were all bought.
In the hobby and leisure sector, GENDA rose sharply, with August monthly sales up 24.4% year on year to ¥222.64 million, a record high. Link-U also rebounded sharply, although the 75-day moving average is reportedly being viewed as resistance overhead.
Other groups, including mobile games, debugging and middleware, and anime and video-related stocks, also traded at high levels. Entertainment-related stocks saw active two-way trading across the market as a whole, with gains and losses diverging from one stock to another.
