ANYCOLOR shares surged after the company announced a share buyback. Meanwhile, major game stocks, led by Nintendo, broadly fell in the morning session.
The Tokyo stock market fell sharply in the morning session, with the Nikkei Average extending its decline. As gainers and decliners were mixed, particularly among game and entertainment-related stocks, notable moves were seen in individual issues, including mobile game stocks.
ANYCOLOR shares staged a sharp rebound at one point after the company announced its share buyback the previous day. The buyback, capped at 2.8 million shares, equivalent to 4.67% of the total number of shares outstanding, and approximately ¥7 billion in total, was viewed as a catalyst. Buying also led the way at times among innovation-related stocks.
Major game stocks, including Nintendo, broadly fell. Some market participants said Nintendo's near-term catalysts had been exhausted following the end of the broadcasts of "Nintendo Direct" and "Zelda Direct," while declines were also pronounced among other major stocks. Amusement-related stocks other than ANYCOLOR were generally weak as well.
Elsewhere, APIRITS was seen as benefiting from the announcement of an upward revision to its earnings forecast and surged, while ANYCOLOR's sharp rebound for the first time in 4 sessions helped shape one segment of the market. The market continued to see catalysts diverge by issue, particularly among game-related stocks.
