The Nikkei 225 rebounded for the first time in 5 trading days, closing at ¥65,020.94. Gains in US technology stocks and buying of AI-related shares lifted the market, which recovered to the ¥65,000 range in trading on the 4th.
The Nikkei 225 rebounded for the first time in 5 trading days on the 4th in the Tokyo stock market, closing ¥806.46 higher than the previous day at ¥65,020.94. Expectations for an early rate hike in the United States receded, sending long-term US interest rates lower and US stocks higher. Buying of AI- and semiconductor-related shares prevailed in the Tokyo market as well.
Nomura Holdings shares reached an 18-year high. The company’s proactive stance on strengthening shareholder returns attracted investor interest and supported the share price.
In the previous day’s trading, buying back shares, led by AI- and semiconductor-related stocks, took precedence against a backdrop of gains in the three major US indexes. However, many investors remained on the sidelines ahead of an auction of 30-year Japanese government bonds during trading hours, and there were cautious views on whether the market could fully recover the losses recorded on the 2nd.
With the rise on the 4th, the Nikkei 225 recovered to the ¥65,000 range, as risk appetite centered on technology stocks spread to the Tokyo market as well.
