Following the discovery of a serious vulnerability in PHP, a programming language widely used around the world, local governments and financial institutions suspended their websites. Some online services at Shizuoka Bank and app functions at Iwate Bank were also suspended, and cases in which loan applications became unavailable were confirmed.
After a serious vulnerability was found in the widely used PHP programming language, Sapporo City temporarily suspended its website from 9 p.m. The city launched a simplified site containing only emergency contact details and emergency medical information, and said that the resumption date had not been determined.
Miyagi Prefecture, Sendai, Shiraishi and others also restricted some website functions. Financial institutions likewise began discontinuing website publication, and the websites of Yamagata Bank, Tochigi Bank, Gunma Bank, Hokkoku Bank and Shizuoka Bank were suspended.
Shizuoka Bank also suspended its official Shizugin app, which provides internet banking access. The bank said that no leakage of personal information had been confirmed and described the measure as a precaution to ensure security. Iwate Bank suspended some functions of its smartphone app, Iwagin App.
At Hokkoku Bank, the website's branch-visit reservation function became unavailable, while at Gunma Bank, loan applications and other services became unavailable. Yamagata Shimbun in Yamagata Prefecture also discontinued publication of its website, and there was no prospect of its resumption.
