Kyoto Marriott Hotel, newly opened at the foot of the Higashiyama mountains in Okazaki, Kyoto, began operations following renovation and rebranding. Its guestrooms are inspired by shoin-zukuri architecture, and its dining facilities offer views of greenery through the windows.
Kyoto Marriott Hotel, newly opened in Okazaki, Kyoto, opened on 1 November 2026 as a new hotel under the Marriott Hotels brand operated by Marriott International. The property was created by renovating and rebranding a former hotel, and is surrounded by landmarks including Heian-jingu Shrine and Nanzen-ji Temple. Its elevated location is expected to make it a base for exploring Kyoto’s culture and natural scenery.
The interior design incorporates Kyoto’s traditional culture and natural elements to create warm, inviting spaces. It combines colors inspired by the hues of Kyo-yaki ceramics, the texture of wood and lattice panels reminiscent of shoji screens, harmonizing traditional crafts with a contemporary sensibility.
The 214 guestrooms were designed with inspiration from shoin-zukuri architecture, incorporating features associated with samurai residences, including tokonoma alcoves and staggered shelves. Wood and white form the primary palette, complemented by landscape-painting-style artwork and shoji motifs. The rooms offer views of Kyoto while providing high-quality bedding, spacious work areas and comfortable bathrooms.
The hotel is centered on a “Great Room” that integrates the lobby and restaurants, creating spaces guests can enjoy throughout the day. The dining area comprises 2 restaurants, including the all-day dining venue Kyo Warabe, and is designed with floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking greenery.
