Wacoal, a subsidiary of Wacoal Holdings, and ISSEY MIYAKE jointly created the new COCOON BODY project. It was announced at 13:00 local time on 2 October 2026 and unveiled at the Spring/Summer 2027 Paris Fashion Week.
COCOON BODY pursues sculptural expression created using Melooop, a proprietary technology developed by the Wacoal Human Science Research and Development Center. The project explores a body-based design approach that does not presuppose conventional sewing or cutting.
The forms created with Melooop combine digital technology and three-dimensional forming technology, aiming to create a new approach that takes the body itself as its starting point. This is said to enable textures and three-dimensional expressions unlike those previously possible.
For COCOON BODY, a torso mould was attached to the Melooop robotic arm previously used to form bra pads, and garments were produced by spraying fibres to create their shape. The project seeks to express the space and subtle sensations between the body and clothing, creating forms that embody the “memory of wearing.”
