McLaren has announced a major £500 million investment and outlined plans to build a new plant in the UK. The investment is intended to expand the model lineup and increase overall production capacity, with around 4,000 jobs ultimately expected to be created.
The launch of new models, including an SUV, has also been confirmed, while future vehicle development, including front-engine models, and enhancements to the production system are moving forward. The new structure is being developed with funding from L’IMAD, and the composition of the parent company before 930 has also changed.
The company has outlined a policy of developing and producing engines in-house, with multiple engine lines expected to be brought under internal production. Plans have also been disclosed for a second plant to supplement the existing production facilities.
In addition to the current facility in Woking, Surrey, UK, the company aims to establish a system for producing next-generation vehicles in the UK and launch an SUV around 2030. COO Straughan said that multiple new production lines would need to be introduced.
