Muso Action has been selected as a GENIAC project operator and will develop and demonstrate a picking-robot foundation model at operational warehouses operated by ASKUL, Nippon Express and Wakamatsu Konpo Unyu Soko. Data will be collected at 3 sites, with the data volume to be validated over the period from October 2026 to September 2027.
Muso Action announced on 9 September that it had been selected as a project operator for GENIAC, a national project implemented by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry and NEDO. ASKUL, Nippon Express and Wakamatsu Konpo Unyu Soko will participate as demonstration partners.
Demonstration sites are the ASKUL Kanto Distribution Center in Ageo, Saitama Prefecture, Nippon Express's Kansai Airport Warehouse in Osaka Prefecture, and Wakamatsu Konpo Unyu Soko's Head Office Second Joint Distribution Center in Ishikawa Prefecture, where data on picking operations will be collected. The companies said the sites will provide diverse data because of differences in work processes and products.
Data collection will target 1 million episodes annually and will be conducted over 1 year, from October 2026 to September 2027. Based on the data collected, the project will develop a logistics-focused robot foundation model based on an open VLA model.
The foundation model will be designed to handle previously untrained SKUs and reduce power consumption, with a target of achieving approximately 60–70% lower power consumption than humanoid robots. Ultimately, the model is scheduled to be deployed in Muso Action's robotic worker, Muso-Roid.
