An investigation into cyberattacks against Japanese companies indicated that the China-linked AI agent ARTEX may have been used. ARTEX is said to have the ability to autonomously search for vulnerabilities.
The investigation identified 6 bases targeting Japanese companies exclusively, with retail, finance and online shopping sites among the sectors reportedly targeted.
Approximately 80 companies may have been affected, of which 8 disclosed information breaches between September and October this year.
The use of ARTEX in this series of attacks has been linked to reports that China-linked AI is being used in some cases.
