Apple today announced HomePod mini 2 as the next generation of HomePod mini. It comes in 5 new colors and is designed to deliver immersive, room-filling sound when used on its own, as a stereo pair or for multi-room playback. It can also be used as a Mac’s default speaker, expanding home entertainment options. Pre-orders open today, with sales beginning on 30 October.
A highlighted new feature is a 4-speaker surround-sound experience when the device is paired with fourth-generation Apple TV 4K. The S10 chip and computational audio technology optimize the listening experience for the space, with support for a range of uses including movies and FaceTime calls.
Smart-home convenience is also emphasized. The Home app can be used to control and automate multiple accessories by voice alone. Sound-recognition notifications, smart-home security features and the built-in home hub allow management from outside the home. The design also emphasizes privacy and security, with Siri set by default not to store voice data.
For environmental considerations, recycled materials are used in the magnets and circuit-board materials, and the product is promoted as having an eco-conscious design including paper packaging. The product comes in 5 colors, pink, green, blue, white and midnight, and the pre-order and sales schedule has been announced.
