Tokyo stocks continued to reflect the morning session trend, with a broad range of stocks bought and the market remaining firm after the afternoon session opened. While buying followed the FOMC outcome, caution toward AI-related stocks remained, and the market showed some volatility as time passed.
The Nikkei 225 began the afternoon session at ¥64,178.65, up ¥255.65 from the previous day, and remained firm above the morning session close. Buying spread across stocks in a broad range of industries.
At the morning close, the Nikkei 225 was up ¥43.87 from the previous day, while the TOPIX stood at 4,091.06, up 29.34 points. Buying broadened on the view that the US FOMC had delivered an outcome in line with expectations, and the market rose by more than ¥700 at the open, although concerns over a slowdown in AI development remained strong and related stocks were weak.
At 10:14, after the Nikkei 225 opened up ¥720 from the previous day, its gain narrowed. Weakness in AI-related and semiconductor-related stocks capped the Nikkei 225's upside, resulting in cautious trading overall.
In the afternoon, it was also reported that most Prime stocks were rising, while some market participants said buying was entering on relief after the FOMC. The market opened up ¥720.58 from the previous day at ¥64,643.58, and buying continued across the board.
The FRB raised interest rates for the first time in 3 years and 2 months, and views were reported that opposition from President Trump was expected. As a result, caution in the financial markets was mixed with speculation over the policy impact.
