The Nikkei Stock Average opened the afternoon session up ¥232.32 from the previous day at ¥64,557.96, as expectations spread that risk aversion had eased alongside stocks in other Asian markets. At the morning close, the Nikkei had posted a modest rebound, up ¥130.19 at ¥64,455.83, while the TOPIX had risen by more than 420 points, with share prices advancing across a broad range of industries.
Market participants said buying led the broader market after US equities rose as the increase in long-term US Treasury yields paused. At the same time, some AI-related stocks, including Fast Retailing, were sold. Declines in stocks with disappointing monthly sales also weighed on the Nikkei at times.
After the opening, the Nikkei Stock Average began the rebound up more than ¥379. Buying was dominant at the open against the backdrop of gains in US equities, creating a market-wide environment in which positive buying factors prevailed.
