Socionext announced that it will collaborate with Cadence to deploy an AI agent in the physical design of large-scale 3nm SoCs. It aims to automate areas such as floorplanning and increase overall productivity by up to 5x.
On 20 October, Socionext announced that it would expand its AI-agent-based SoC design and development initiatives to the physical design of large-scale SoCs using advanced processes. It named Cadence as its collaborating partner and disclosed that it would deploy Cadence InnoStack AI Super Agent.
In physical design, the planned applications include automated floorplanning, customized timing-analysis checks and, in the future, checklist automation. The stated aim is to integrate in-house design knowledge into workflows.
President and COO Yoshida Hisato (吉田 久人) said the company expects overall productivity to improve by up to 5x through Cadence's agentic AI workflows. Cadence also indicated that it would provide integration through the open and extensible InnoStack AI Super Agent.
In Japan, other examples include Rapidus's AI design-support platform Raads, and the article said that collaboration in the use of AI is expected to advance throughout the SoC development workflow.
