Daicel will conduct a demonstration project for a next-generation plant using physical AI jointly with AVITA at its Otake Plant in Hiroshima Prefecture from December 2026. Through demonstrations involving quadruped robots conducting rounds and inspections within the plant, the project will validate safe operating conditions and the potential for practical implementation.
Daicel announced that it will begin a joint demonstration project using avatars and physical AI at its Otake Plant from December 2026. The project will explore the potential for robots and AI to support or replace site rounds and equipment inspections that have traditionally been performed by people.
The project will use quadruped robots to conduct rounds and inspections within the plant, validating their potential for use in actual production environments, as well as safety and operating methods. Driving tests have been conducted at the Otake Plant since August 2026, and validation using autonomous navigation is scheduled to begin in December 2026.
Under its medium-term strategy, Daicel has adopted the concept of “kind manufacturing” and is pursuing both safety, quality and environmental objectives and employee well-being. As its first initiative, the company is conducting a demonstration project to enhance sensory inspections at its Aboshi Plant. This joint demonstration project will build on that effort by exploring the practical implementation of site rounds and equipment inspections.
Plant operations include tasks involving danger and physical strain, as well as challenges such as responding during the late-night and early-morning hours. Through this demonstration project, Daicel aims to improve the working environment and create more productive plants.
