JGC Holdings has begun a demonstration in Mie Prefecture of chalcopyrite solar cells installed using an approximately 1 kW sheet method on the factory roof at Honda's Suzuka Factory. The project will use foldable modules in cooperation with its partners and run through around early February 2027.
A demonstration project led by the JGC Group has begun in Mie Prefecture. The project involves testing the application of a sheet installation method using a power generation facility rated at approximately 1 kW on the factory roof at Honda's Suzuka Factory. PX P-made chalcopyrite solar cells will be used, with JGC Holdings and Honda working together on the project.
The connected modules are approximately 3.3 metres long and 0.5 metres wide, with their weight reduced to approximately 2 kilograms per square metre. They can be folded for transport and are designed to reduce on-site wiring work.
The sheet method combines large, lightweight modules made by connecting multiple solar cells with heat-shielding sheets, generating electricity while limiting heat transfer to the building. The generated electricity is planned for use by electric scooters, and the resulting reduction in CO2 emissions will also be evaluated.
The demonstration is expected to run through around early February 2027, with a comprehensive assessment of on-site constructability, maintainability, power generation performance and heat-shielding effects.
