BYD’s new Racco model is seeing strong sales, with monthly orders reaching 1,260 units in August and cumulative orders approximately 1,500 units as of the end of the month. The discrepancy with the online claim of 81 units has become a topic of discussion.
BYD’s Japanese subsidiary announced that monthly orders in August 2026 totaled 1,260 units, with the new Racco model driving sales. Cumulative orders had reached approximately 1,500 units as of the end of August, indicating a strong start for the model in the Japanese market.
The new Racco model has a body measuring 3,395 mm in length, 1,475 mm in width and 1,800 mm in height, and comes standard with power sliding doors on both sides. The motor produces 64 hp and maximum torque of 160 Nm. The entry-level 200 has a 22.40 kWh battery and a practical range of 210 km (WLTC). The higher-grade 300Plus and 300Premium models have a 35.84 kWh battery and a real-world range of 320 km.
The entry-level 200 is priced at ¥2.145 million, the 300Plus at ¥2.398 million and the top-of-the-line 300Premium at ¥2.497 million, all including consumption tax. The pricing is designed to reduce the effective customer burden through the use of subsidies. Approximately 80% of orders are concentrated on the 300Premium, suggesting strong support from customers seeking high-quality equipment.
Meanwhile, reports have circulated online claiming that only 81 units of the new Racco model were sold in August, prompting discussion of the discrepancy between the official figure of 1,500 cumulative orders and the claims circulating online.
