Iwatani Corporation of Japan and Cosmo Oil, a subsidiary of Cosmo Energy Holdings, have made a final investment decision on the joint development of a hydrogen supply network at Cosmo Oil's Chiba Refinery and expect operations to commence in 2030. Cosmo Oil will bring back into operation hydrogen production facilities with a capacity of approximately 80 tonnes per day, with the investment estimated at approximately ¥20 billion. Iwatani Industrial Gases will build a liquefied hydrogen plant with a capacity of 11.6 tonnes per day, with an investment of approximately ¥30 billion. The facilities are intended to stabilize the companies' hydrogen supply chain.
Iwatani and Cosmo plan to use hydrogen in Cosmo's refining process, while supplying part of the output to Iwatani, which will supply and distribute liquefied hydrogen to the domestic market. As operations commence, the companies aim to ensure a stable hydrogen supply and expand the domestic market.
