The South Korean subsidiary of Mitsui-Soko Holdings has completed its second warehouse in the Busan New Port Free Trade Zone and began operations in October. Equipped with temperature-controlled air conditioning and cleanrooms, the facility also supports the storage and value-added processing of healthcare cargo, including medical devices and pharmaceuticals.
Mitsui-Soko's South Korean subsidiary, Mitsui-Soko (Korea), has completed the Busan New Port No. 2 Warehouse, which it had been constructing in the free trade zone at Busan New Port, and began operations in October. The five-storey facility has a gross floor area of 9,000 tsubo and is equipped with temperature-controlled air conditioning and cleanrooms, enabling it to handle the storage and value-added processing of cargo requiring strict quality control, including medical devices and pharmaceuticals.
In 2014, the company opened its first warehouse in the free trade zone at Busan New Port, where it has provided cargo storage and value-added processing under non-resident names, as well as triangular trade logistics. In recent years, demand for advanced storage and processing of healthcare-related cargo, including medical devices and pharmaceuticals, has increased alongside demand for food ingredients and chemicals. The company therefore decided to build the second warehouse in November 2024.
The new warehouse uses temperature-controlled environments and cleanrooms to support not only the storage of high-value-added cargo but also value-added processing. By operating it together with the existing first warehouse, the company plans to handle a broad range of cargo, including hazardous materials, and to provide services tailored to each customer's logistics requirements.
The free trade zone where the warehouse is located allows the company to use a scheme under which import and export cargo is exempt from customs duties. It also allows overseas companies to store cargo under non-resident names without establishing a Korean entity. Combining these schemes with Busan New Port's international shipping network, the company expects the facility to serve not only the South Korean market but also as a transit hub for re-export to third countries and triangular trade logistics.
