Panasonic Industry announced that it will make an additional investment of approximately ¥92 billion to expand production of materials for AI servers. It will expand production, centered on higher MEGTRON output, across China, Thailand and Taiwan, with operations expected to come online sequentially from 2028 onward.
Panasonic Industry, part of the Panasonic Group, has announced that it will invest approximately ¥92 billion to expand production capacity for materials related to AI servers. The investment will span China, Thailand, Indonesia and Japan, with the expansion centered on increased production of MEGTRON, a high-performance multilayer circuit board material. Funds will also be allocated to the development of capacitors for GPU power supplies and next-generation semiconductor packaging materials. MEGTRON is widely used in AI servers and network equipment to reduce transmission losses.
Specifically, ¥30 billion will be invested in the Suzhou plant in China to build a second-phase building, with operations scheduled to begin in August 2028. The Ayutthaya plant in Thailand will receive ¥37 billion to build a second-phase new plant, with operations targeted to begin in April 2029. The additional investment has made Panasonic’s global plan to expand MEGTRON production capacity more concrete.
