Panasonic Industry announced a total investment of approximately ¥92 billion in its AI-related business. It will expand production capacity for the high-performance multilayer circuit-board materials MEGTRON and SP-Cap in Japan and overseas, while establishing a new R&D facility for next-generation semiconductor materials.
On 30 October 2026, Panasonic Industry announced an investment plan aimed at accelerating growth in its AI-related business, with a total investment of approximately ¥92 billion. The breakdown is approximately ¥67 billion for MEGTRON, ¥17 billion for SP-Cap, and ¥8 billion for R&D into materials for next-generation semiconductors. The investment will be spread across multiple countries and will not be limited to Japan.
The MEGTRON investment includes constructing new buildings and strengthening production operations in China and Thailand. Mass production at the new building in Suzhou, China, Phase I, is targeted to start in December 2026, with Phase II scheduled to come online in August 2028. A new building will also be developed at the plant in Thailand, with operations expected to start in April 2029. The aim is to establish a stable supply system across five locations worldwide.
A total of approximately ¥17 billion will be invested in SP-Cap to establish increased-production operations at two locations, the Uji Plant in Kyoto and the Batam Plant in Indonesia. The new production building in Batam will have five floors, with construction scheduled to begin in 2027 and operations targeted to start in April 2029.
Over the medium to long term, approximately ¥8 billion will be invested in the Yokkaichi-Minami Plant to establish a new R&D building for next-generation semiconductor materials. The company will integrate material and manufacturing-process technologies to support advances for AI servers and establish capabilities that anticipate future packaging technologies. The investment will focus on establishing an R&D facility and does not mean that new mass-production equipment will be installed.
