GEO and セカンドリテイリング confirmed unauthorized access to their internal systems on 15 October and began emergency system maintenance at 21:00 on 17 October. They are proceeding with the suspension of and recovery work for services including GEO Online.
Following confirmation of unauthorized access to their internal systems by a third party, GEO and セカンドリテイリング temporarily suspended multiple apps and web services, primarily GEO Online, and began maintenance. They said they would investigate the cause and scope of the impact in cooperation with an external security organisation.
As a result of the maintenance, the acceptance of new orders and order cancellation procedures on GEO Online, various home-delivery buyback procedures, and online procedures for home-delivery rentals have been suspended or restricted, while some in-store procedures have also changed. Stores are operating during their normal hours, but customers need to exercise caution when using reservations, buyback and rental services.
In Japan, there have recently been a series of cases involving information leaks caused by unauthorized access to companies. No direct connection with the present incident has been disclosed at this time. The timing of recovery has not been determined, and updates will be provided through official announcements and the GEO Online notification page.
Detailed guidance will be provided once the recovery outlook becomes clear, and customers have been instructed to check official announcements for further information.
