McDonald’s will begin selling its new Zaku-Zaku Juicy Mac on 21 October. Made with whole chicken thigh fillets and a ridged coating, the products are designed to combine a crunchy texture with juicy meat. The range will include 3 burgers, including the Zaku-Zaku Juicy Mac, and the Zaku-Zaku Juicy Thigh Chicken.
The products reportedly took approximately 5 years to develop, with more than 100 prototypes tested. The aim is to differentiate them from McDonald’s existing regular chicken menu items, and attention is also focused on how they will coexist with those products.
Following the discontinuation of Chicken Filet-O, McDonald’s is pursuing a strategy of establishing the new products as regular menu items. The company is reportedly planning to strengthen its appeal around taste and texture through store rollouts and advertising.
The key factors will be how the products differentiate themselves from other chicken burgers following the launch, as well as consumer response and continued purchases as McDonald’s seeks to establish them as regular menu items.
