Nippon Shokubai raised its investment in a Kitakyushu battery materials plant for LiFSI from the previous ¥37.5 billion to ¥43 billion, and postponed the start of commercial operations by 5 months to December 2028.
The Kitakyushu Plant, which will be newly built in Hibiki-cho, Wakamatsu-ku, Kitakyushu, will have a site area of 65,000 square meters and an expected annual LiFSI production capacity of 3,000 tonnes, with 50 employees planned. Construction began in January 2026.
The increase in investment is attributed to higher material and resource prices, the impact of the weaker yen, and growing construction demand in western Japan. The postponement of the start of commercial operations is primarily attributed to delays in the timing of the land purchase. A subsidy of up to ¥12.5 billion is expected to be applied unchanged under the plan of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry.
The information disclosed to date contains no additional specific figures beyond the assumption that operations will begin in December 2028. Further related information is awaited.
