Apple announced the new MacBook Pro, unveiling a PROLED XDR display, touch operation, a lighter design and the return of the glowing Apple logo. Pre-orders begin on 29 October, sales start on 6 November, and prices vary by model.
The new MacBook Pro features a PROLED XDR display using tandem OLED technology, which stacks two OLED panels. It delivers HDR/SDR brightness of up to 2,000 nits, improving brightness and contrast over the previous generation. It supports the P3 colour gamut as well as Adobe RGB, with an adaptive refresh rate of 10–120Hz.
The MacBook Pro supports touch operation for the first time, enabling actions such as zooming, swiping and full-screen display. It also offers a way to interact directly with the screen only when needed, while retaining the familiar usability of the conventional trackpad and keyboard. Dynamic Island is also included, allowing notifications and playback information to be displayed.
The thinner, lighter design is another major change. The 14-inch model has been reduced by 220g, from 1.60kg to 1.38kg, while the 16-inch model has been reduced by 320g, from 2.14kg to 1.82kg. Thinner display bezels have expanded the screen size to 14.2 inches or more on the 14-inch model and 16.3 inches or more on the 16-inch model. Models with the previous design will continue to be sold, allowing customers to choose between the previous and new designs.
A key feature of the new design is the return, for the first time in 10 years, of a glowing Apple logo on the back of the display. The speakers have been redesigned for deeper bass, and the MacBook Pro features studio-quality microphones and spatial audio with Dolby Atmos. The camera is a 12MP Center Stage camera, and the device also supports Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6.
