Apple is expected to unveil its first touchscreen-equipped MacBook Pro at an announcement event held at 2:00 a.m. on 29 October Japan time. The report comes from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, and the specifications, price and release date of the new product had not been disclosed officially at the time of writing.
The new model is expected to come in 2 sizes, 14 inches and 16 inches, and is expected to use an organic light-emitting diode (OLED) display. It is reportedly expected to be lighter than the current model and may feature a display area resembling the iPhone’s Dynamic Island in place of the notch. The price could be higher than that of the current top-end model.
Touch operation is reportedly positioned as an additional input method rather than a replacement for the keyboard or trackpad. The macOS UI is expected to be designed to change depending on whether the user is operating it by touch or with the conventional trackpad.
The MacBook Pro previously featured a Touch Bar, but this model is also expected to retain the conventional clamshell design and large trackpad while allowing users to touch the screen when needed. Confirmed information will have to wait until the announcement on the 29th.
