In response to requests from global semiconductor leaders, Ibiden is proceeding with investment in a planned new plant in Gifu costing approximately ¥500 billion, funded by advance payments from NVIDIA and Intel.
As semiconductor-related companies around the world continue to grow, Ibiden is preparing to invest in a planned new plant in Gifu after receiving strong interest from NVIDIA, Intel and others. NVIDIA’s CEO reportedly visited Japan in July this year and negotiated directly with Ibiden President Koji Kawashima.
Total investment is expected to be approximately ¥500 billion, most of which has been received as advance payments. Ibiden’s sales were approximately ¥416.2 billion for the fiscal year ending March 2026, and the company recognizes that continuing such a major investment will require responding to customer requests.
The company explained that the purpose of using advance payments is to meet customer demand and stabilize production plans amid significant fluctuations in the semiconductor market. President Kawashima said negotiations to obtain advance funding had been difficult.
