Sony Group has officially decided not to exhibit at CES 2027, marking its first non-participation in 60 years. The move comes amid a restructuring of its business around entertainment and IP, as well as the collapse of its AFEELA plan with Honda.
Sony Group officially announced that it will not exhibit at CES 2027. This will end its participation, which had continued for many years since the first event in 1967.
In a statement, Sony said it is restructuring its business around entertainment and intellectual property, and analyzed that opportunities to showcase new hardware products and technologies had reduced the strategic importance of CES on a relative basis.
In mobility, Sony fully cancelled its plan for the AFEELA electric vehicle, which it had been developing in a joint venture with Honda, weakening the impetus for mobility exhibits at CES. The decision was affected by Honda's expectation of a substantial net loss for fiscal 2025 and the cancellation of its development plan for vehicles produced in North America.
Sony will, however, maintain its position as a core supplier of automotive image sensors and is considering creating an in-vehicle entertainment platform in the future. Changes in CES's identity have also been noted during the same period, and attention is focused on developments at next year's event.
