Unitree, a Shanghai-based robotics company, listed on the Shanghai STAR Market on 19 August. The public offering was oversubscribed approximately 5,500 times, and the opening price exceeded six times the offer price, attracting significant attention from the market at the outset of trading.
The share price peaked immediately after the listing before plunging to less than half by early September, but founder Wang Xingxing (王興興氏) was reported to have responded calmly in his role as president.
Wang (王氏) developed an interest in machinery from an early age and chose entrepreneurship rather than an elite career, eventually taking the company public. The company is viewed as aiming to evolve its robots so that they can autonomously perform human tasks, with applications in nursing care and everyday work in sight.
