ニコン revised its first-half results for the fiscal year ending March 2027 on an IFRS basis, turning the cumulative April-September net result from a loss to a profit. It also raised its full-year net income forecast to a ¥16.0 billion profit.
ニコン announced an IFRS-based earnings revision after the close on 30 October, raising its forecast for cumulative net income for the second quarter of the current fiscal year (April-September) from a previous loss to a ¥10.5 billion profit. Net income in the same period of the previous year was ¥5.35 billion. This effectively confirms a profit for the first half.
Following the first-half return to profitability, the full-year consolidated net income forecast was also raised from the previous ¥10.0 billion profit to a ¥16.0 billion profit. The previous fiscal year recorded an ¥86.0 billion loss, and the improvement in the full-year outlook is 60.0%.
The reasons for the revision include higher service revenue in the Precision Equipment Business, benefiting from semiconductor market conditions, lower selling, general and administrative expenses due to cost controls and deferrals, and tariff refunds in the United States. The earnings forecast is expected to exceed the previous forecast, led by operating profit.
The revision also sets new exchange-rate assumptions for the third quarter onward at ¥155 to the U.S. dollar and ¥180 to the euro, while revisions to the second-half revenue plan are also having an impact.
