Sumitomo Bakelite announced that it will increase production capacity for encapsulants used in advanced semiconductor packages in Suzhou, China, and Singapore. In China, it will add an encapsulant production line at the site of the new plant, while in Singapore it will significantly expand production capacity for MUF and granular encapsulants.
On the 9th, Sumitomo Bakelite announced that it will increase production capacity for encapsulants used in advanced semiconductor packages in Suzhou, China, and Singapore. In China, it will construct an additional building at the site of the completed new plant and install new production lines for MUF encapsulants and granular encapsulants.
Production in China is scheduled to begin in fiscal 2030. In Singapore, current production capacity is expected to increase to approximately twice the current level for MUF and approximately three times the current level for granular materials.
In addition, if the acquisition of Kyocera's chemical business is completed at the end of October, production capacity for MUF encapsulants and granular encapsulants held by Kyocera will be added. This will strengthen the supply structure in advanced semiconductor production regions centred on Japan, China and Southeast Asia.
The move is viewed as being aimed at ensuring a stable supply of advanced semiconductor materials and is expected to be a focus of attention regarding the expansion of the supply chain going forward.
